DescriptionThe whole story▼
Club endurance races turn a BMW S 1000 RR into a team project. Two or three riders share one bike for several hours, and every rider change comes with a stop in the pit lane, where fuel goes in while the clock keeps running. For the S 1000 RR from 2017 to 2025, Accossato lists the FC103. The cap is cut from aluminium on CNC machines and worked by a quick-closing pawl, and on a bike refuelled against the clock that kind of closure has a clear job to do.
Key Features
- Quick-release tank cap for the BMW S 1000 RR, model years 2017 to 2025
- Aluminium throughout, CNC-machined
- Quick-closing pawl for fast access to the filler
- Pin available in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Pawl also sold on its own as a spare
- Part number FC103
- Track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
From a pit crew's point of view, the FC103 has two things going for it. One is the quick-closing pawl, which gets the tank open and shut again quickly when seconds count. The other is the material: Accossato machines the entire cap from aluminium and calls it tough and long-lasting, qualities that matter on a bike refuelled in a hurry. The pin on the pawl comes in six colours, the design is new and distinctive, and a pawl bent during a rushed stop can be replaced on its own.
Pit Stops in Club Endurance Racing
A refuelling stop in a club endurance race follows a routine the team should rehearse well before the start. The rider pulls into the pit box and switches off, and nobody touches the fuel until the engine has stopped. One crew member stands ready with a fire extinguisher, another opens the cap, and a third pours from the can through a funnel, holding it steady so no fuel lands on the hot engine or the bodywork. When the tank is full, the cap is closed and checked by hand before the next rider leaves. Time lost here is time lost on track, but spilled fuel costs far more, in minutes and in safety. Practise the sequence with the S 1000 RR on its stands in the paddock until everyone knows their job, and keep a spare pawl in the pit box in case the fitted one is knocked during a hurried stop.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FC103 for the S 1000 RR from 2017 to 2025, a span that covers the final years of the earlier generation and the new RR that BMW introduced for 2019. For RR models up to 2016, Accossato lists a different cap, the FC133. With us, the FC103 is also listed for the S 1000 R and for touring models such as the K 1600 GTL. Please check the year of your S 1000 RR against the application list before ordering.
Road Approval
The FC103 comes without a documented German ABE or expert report, so we supply it for racing and track days. On the road, the RR's original cap, which locks, remains the correct part, and swapping it on a registered bike is not something to do casually.
