DescriptionThe whole story▼
Touring means riding in whatever weather the week brings, and a Ducati Hyperstrada 939 on a longer trip will meet rain sooner or later. Wet roads change how the brakes behave: the first touch of the lever wipes water off the discs before the pads bite, and road spray leaves grit on every surface. For the Hyperstrada 939 of 2016 and 2017, Accossato lists the DKS053, a floating front disc whose black carrier holds a ring 320 mm across and 5.5 mm thick.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Hyperstrada 939, 2016 to 2017
- 320 mm outer diameter, 72 mm inner diameter, 5.5 mm thick
- Five 8.5 mm holes at 90 mm hole-centre distance
- Black carrier, friction ring on rivets
- Direct replacement for the original disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc supplied; two make up the front brake
- No German ABE on record, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Friction ring and black carrier are the two parts of the DKS053, joined by rivets in the floating arrangement that lets the ring expand without straining the carrier. The carrier has a five-hole pattern with 8.5 mm holes and a 90 mm hole-centre distance, and the bore is 72 mm. Accossato states that the disc replaces the original directly. Its minimum working thickness is printed on the disc, and Accossato is explicit that a worn disc can break under extreme stress.
A Wet Week on Tour
In steady rain, touch the brakes lightly a moment before you need them so the pads can clear the water from the discs. Leave longer gaps and stop more gently, because the tyres have less grip, not because the brakes do. At the end of a wet day the discs of the Hyperstrada 939 will often look grimy, and the next morning they may show a thin layer of rust that the first stops remove. Grit is the real concern: fine particles caught between pad and disc can score the ring. If the brakes begin to grind audibly, clean pads and discs before the damage grows, and give the discs a close inspection once you are home.
Fitment and Compatibility
The DKS053 is catalogued by Accossato for the Hyperstrada 939 of 2016 and 2017. It replaces one of two front discs, and the price is per disc. For the same bike, the DK053 is Accossato's thinner alternative, and the EDB012 and ESD082 levers are also listed.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the DKS053, and neither is a type approval; we sell it for track use.
Scope of Delivery
