DescriptionThe whole story▼

On a superbike like the S 1000 RR, fairing panels are among the most expensive parts to replace after a fall, and painted ones in a particular colour scheme can take weeks to arrive. Many owners therefore fit crash pads early, and the first question they ask is whether the fairing will have to be drilled. For the S 1000 RR of 2015 to 2018, Accossato lists the TP066: a pair of crash pads machined from aluminium, with an anodised insert in the colour of your choice and, if you want it, a screw cover in the same colour.

Key Features

  • Crash pads for the BMW S 1000 RR, 2015 to 2018
  • Accossato code TP066, two pads per pack
  • CNC-machined aluminium
  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Screw cover in the same colour, optional
  • Accossato says some bikes need the fairing drilled: ask us about the S 1000 RR first
  • Matches the PF043 front and PP001 or PP017 rear axle sliders
  • No German ABE; track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

The TP066 is shaped from aluminium on CNC equipment. Each of the two pads carries an anodised insert in the colour you pick from six, and a screw cover to match can be ordered with it, which gives the pads a finished look once they are on the bike. On the question that matters most to S 1000 RR owners, Accossato is candid but not specific: some motorcycles need the fairing drilled to take its pads, and the application list does not say which. That is why we ask you to contact us before ordering; we will clarify it for your bike.

Before the Drill Comes Out

Drilling a fairing is a one-way decision. Once the hole is there, the panel will never return to its original state, which matters if you plan to sell the bike one day with its road bodywork intact. So take the time to find out first whether it is necessary on your S 1000 RR, and if it is, decide whether you want to drill the original panels. If the answer is yes, it is a job for a careful hand: mark the position precisely, protect the paint and work slowly, or leave it to a workshop. Once the pads are fitted, turn the bars from lock to lock and check that no cable, hose or panel touches them. After a fall, check the pads, their mounting and the fairing around them, and replace a pad that is damaged. They are meant to take the first contact and can reduce the damage, but a fall on a fully faired superbike is rarely free of cost.

Fitment and Compatibility

The TP066 is on Accossato's list for the S 1000 RR from 2015 to 2018. For this bike the maker also offers the PF043 front axle sliders and two rear axle slider sets, PP001 and PP017, so the whole machine can be covered. Whether drilling is needed on your bike is something we clarify before you order; tell us whether the fairing is original or has been replaced, as that may matter.

Road Approval

Our files contain no German ABE and no test report for the TP066; we therefore list it as a racing part.
