Sprint Filter PM175P14 air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

Four media are listed against this airbox, and the RC R is offered three of them. The T12, the extreme-conditions nonwoven at 7 microns and 560 l/m²/sec, is catalogued for the Duke models and stops there; it is not listed for the RC R. The consequence is worth knowing before any comparison shopping. On this machine the P14 is the finest medium Sprint Filter supplies, and the fine end of the range has a hard stop rather than one more step beyond it.

Key Features

  • The finest medium catalogued for the RC R: 14 µm at 1,800 l/m²/sec
  • Far finer than the standard P08 weave, which is rated 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec
  • A dry nonwoven, oiled at no stage and regenerated with compressed air
  • Occupies the standard airbox in place of the original element, without a remap
  • Reused for the life of the motorcycle instead of renewed on the service schedule
  • Two years of warranty from the date of purchase

Where the range stops for this machine

An option that is missing from a catalogue is information, not an oversight. The extreme medium exists for this housing and is simply not listed against the faired machine, which fits the shape of the thing: a road-going sports motorcycle is not where anyone would specify a desert filter, and the flow it would surrender is severe. So the choice on an RC R is genuinely three-way — the racing weave, the standard weave, and this one at the fine end — and there is nothing further down to wonder about.

What the fine end costs

Retention and flow move against each other, always. Passing 1,800 l/m²/sec where the standard element passes 5,050 is the price of the finer rating, paid on every ride whether or not the air deserves it. That makes this a conditional recommendation rather than an upgrade: it is right where the roads are dusty and wrong where they are not. And in neither case does it make a standard 990 RC R quicker, because a replacement element in an unmodified airbox never has.

Care and cleaning

Hold an air line to the clean face of the PM175P14 and work outward, so the load leaves through the surface that collected it. Where dry air is not enough, lukewarm water with a mild detergent will lift the rest, rinsed until the water comes away clean. Drying is done in moving air and nowhere else, with no heat source of any kind involved, and the element goes back untreated once it is dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

The P14 for the KTM 990 RC R, model year 2026. Five machines are listed against this element, the RC R being the newest of them and the only one for which the extreme T12 is not offered. Order by element code and model year rather than by model name; the full compatibility list is in the Fitment tab.
