Sprint Filter's P14 turns up all over the Husqvarna range, and for most of that range it sits behind a single cylinder of 401 cm³ or less. On the Svartpilen 801 the same 14-micron nonwoven has an 800-class parallel twin in front of it. Nothing about the material changes and nothing about the housing changes either, but the rate at which air is drawn through it does — and that is what actually sets how often the element wants attention. PM283P14 is specified for the airbox; the service interval belongs to the engine.
Key Features
- Dry technical nonwoven, supplied and run without oil
- Retention at 14 microns, flow rate 1,800 litres per square metre per second
- About twice the filtering area of other performance filters
- Washable and reusable, designed for the life of the motorcycle
- Fits the production airbox directly, with no modification or remapping
- Two-year warranty starting at purchase
The same cloth, a different clock
A filter ages by neither the calendar nor, strictly, the odometer. What loads it is the volume of air that has passed through, multiplied by what that air was carrying. A twin of this capacity samples a great deal more air per hour than the singles that carry the same medium elsewhere in the range, so at equal dustiness it reaches the same loaded state sooner. That is not a fault in the specification — the element is sized for the housing, and the housing was drawn around this engine — but an interval borrowed from a smaller machine will be optimistic here, and the honest approach is to look rather than to count.
Why the finer element is on this bike's list
The Svartpilen is styled for surfaces the Vitpilen is not, and the P14 is the element for those surfaces: 14 microns against the standard weave's 80, at 1,800 litres per square metre per second against 5,050. About a third of the flow, given up in exchange for holding back a finer fraction of what a dry road gives off. The exchange runs strictly both ways, and no amount of it will make a standard 801 noticeably quicker. What it does is keep more of the fine mineral fraction — the part small enough to travel past the rings — out of an engine you presumably mean to keep for a while.
Care and cleaning
Direct compressed air through from the clean side and work outwards. Where air is not enough, wash in warm water with a mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Then dry the element in air alone — never with heat and never near a flame — and put it back only once it is completely dry. Nothing is oiled afterwards, which is one fewer way to get filter maintenance wrong. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet for PM283P14 is available under the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 built between 2024 and 2026. The same element covers the Vitpilen 801 and the KTM 790 Duke of 2022 onwards, three machines sharing one airbox, and the Fitment tab sets them out in full. Order by part number rather than by model name.
