Small-wheel racing is real. Mini-GP grids, supermoto-style club classes and pit-bike series all have Monkeys in them, and since 2022 the five-speed JB03 and JB05 have become the base bike for a good share of those builds. The SM302S F1-85 is the racing element for that bike: Sprint Filter's F1-85 polyester, the specification the manufacturer supplies to MotoGP and Superbike teams, in the exact outline of the Honda filter. For a Monkey ridden to the shops, it is the wrong purchase, and this page will say why.

Where it pays
On a standard Monkey, nothing: a filter swap in a standard airbox does not make it quicker, and the engine cannot use 15,000 l/m²/sec. It starts to matter once the engine has been opened up, with a big-bore kit, a free-flowing exhaust and a carburettor or injection setup that genuinely asks for more air. Then the restriction in the intake stops being theoretical, and a medium that flows three times as much as the P08 while holding back slightly more dirt is exactly what a race engine wants.
The honest price comparison
The F1-85 costs several times what the P08 does for this same bike. The difference buys flow the standard engine will never reach and a small improvement in retention. For road riding, including spirited road riding, the SM302S is the sensible choice and loses nothing that matters. Buy this one if the Monkey races, or if it has been built into something that behaves like a racer.
Care and cleaning
Blow it through with compressed air against the direction of intake after every race weekend; that keeps the flow figure where it should be. Greasy deposits wash off in lukewarm water with mild detergent, followed by a clear rinse and air drying at room temperature. Never apply heat or oil. Fitment & Compatibility
Honda Monkey 125, model year 2022 and later: frame code JB03 or JB05, five-speed gearbox, upper airbox cover 17235-K0F-T60. The 2018–2021 JB02 with four gears takes PM179S F1-85. Because Honda's filter number 17210-K0F-T00 is shared by both generations, identify the bike by its gearbox, frame code or airbox cover before ordering.
