The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Brutale 800 has been in production since 2013, which makes it the most numerous machine on this fitment list and the one carrying the most secondhand advice. Nearly all of that advice was written about oiled cotton gauze, because for twenty years that was what a performance air filter meant. CM135S is a different object, and the habits that belong to it are different too.
Key Features
- Woven polyester used completely dry — there is no oiling step, ever
- Filtering area roughly twice that of other performance elements
- Aperture of 80 µm, rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Fits the housing as supplied; the airbox is not altered and the mapping is untouched
- Washed and reused, with an expected life equal to the motorcycle's
- Two years of cover, running from the day it is bought
Why the oil matters more than the cloth
An oiled gauze filter holds fine particles by making them stick. That works, but the film is a consumable in its own right: it must be reapplied after every wash, in the right quantity, and whatever is over-applied does not necessarily stay put. A modern intake is full of components that dislike an oil mist, hot-film sensors above all. A dry weave holds particles by geometry instead. Sprint Filter's own comparison puts the P08 at 93.13 per cent retention of 100-micron particles against 76.42 per cent for four-layer oiled cotton, and afterwards it needs nothing applied to it at all.
What it does not do
It adds no power a rider can feel. A drop-in element in a standard airbox on a standard engine cannot, and a Brutale that has just had one fitted will accelerate exactly as it did before. The honest claim is narrower: intake restriction begins lower and, because the element is cleaned rather than progressively surrendered to dirt, it stays near where it began for as long as the bike is kept. On a machine sold on immediacy of response, simply holding the factory specification is the point.
Care and cleaning
Blow it out with an air line held against the clean face, working from the inside outwards. A wash is only needed once air stops lifting the load: lukewarm water, a drop of mild detergent, and rinsing continued until the run-off is colourless. Drying is unhurried and cold — never a heat gun, never a flame, never an oven — and it is refitted only once completely dry. No oil, no spray, no dressing of any kind. The cleaning sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
This element is listed for the MV Agusta Brutale 800 across its 2013 to 2026 run. Eleven MV triples share CM135S — the Fitment tab names them individually.
