The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ask which Sprint Filter is the best one and the answer is that the question does not have that shape. The company weaves the same polyester at several densities, and every step towards a finer cloth buys retention and spends flow. Reading the range as a ranking is the commonest mistake made when choosing one — including on a machine like the RC 250, sold largely into places where the air is not the cool, clean sort that specification sheets quietly assume.
Key Features
- P08 medium: 80 µm filtration at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road-and-track point of the range
- Dry from the factory and dry after every clean; oil is not part of the design
- Holds 93.13 % of 100-micron particles, where a four-layer oiled cotton element holds 76.42 %
- Roughly double the filtering area of a comparable performance element
- Drops into the standard RC 250 airbox with no modification and no remap
- A service life meant to match the motorcycle's, backed by two years of warranty
Finer is not better, it is different
The range begins with the P08 F1-85, the racing weave: polyester threads from 22 µm in diameter, 15,000 l/m²/sec, and an 85 that belongs to its name rather than to any pore size. After it come this P08 at 80 µm and 5,050, the water-repellent P037 at 37 µm and 4,500, the P14 at 14 µm and 1,800, and finally the T12 at 7 µm and 560. From the P08 downwards, each step holds back more and passes less. The F1-85 stands apart from that line — a separate, patented cloth that flows more and, in the maker's test on 100-micron particles, also retained more than the P08, built and priced for racing. A T12 fitted to a road bike is not an upgrade, it is a medium built for desert air being asked to feed an engine that does not live there.
Which one this airbox gets
For the RC 250 that decision has already been taken: Sprint Filter catalogues this airbox as PM145S in P08 and nothing else, and the road-and-track point is where a machine that commutes, tours a little and occasionally sees a circuit belongs. It will not make the bike quicker — a drop-in element never does on a standard road machine — and it does not pretend to filter like a P14. It sits at the setting chosen for exactly this kind of use.
Care and cleaning
Whichever medium you end up with, the routine is the same one: compressed air on the clean side, working outward, and the element goes back dry. Mild detergent and water at hand temperature deal with whatever the air leaves behind, followed by a rinse until the water is clear and however long it takes to dry in still air. Never use heat, and never refit a damp element. The sheet for the PM145S is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
The P08 for the KTM RC 250, 2015 to 2017. Nine machines in the small-capacity KTM range take this element; the Fitment tab names them with their year spans so you can check yours before ordering.
