The case against this part should come first. It is a carbon-framed race assembly and it is priced like one: close to five times a conventional P08 panel for the same airbox, and more than five times what a typical element in the Sprint Filter catalogue costs. For most 1199 owners that is the end of the discussion, and it should be — the ordinary panel filters the same airbox on the same principles, dry and washable, for a small fraction of the outlay.

The three reasons that are left

What survives the objection is a short list. A machine used in weather rather than on chosen days, where a repellent weave earns its keep. An airbox opened often enough that a frame built to be handled repeatedly is worth having. And an owner who intends to keep the bike long enough for a component with no consumable cost to mean anything. Fewer than three of those and the answer is the standard panel. R127S-WP-SBK is no sort of power part in any case, and no insert element in an untouched airbox makes a standard 1199 noticeably stronger.

What the price is not buying

Not throughput: at 4,500 l/m²/sec this weave is rated slightly below the standard P08 and far below the racing cloth. Not a homologation of any kind. Not a remap, and not permission to skip one, since nothing about the intake geometry changes. The money goes into construction and into how the medium behaves when it is wet, which is a narrow thing to buy and worth knowing precisely before buying it.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air from the clean face outward keeps it in condition, and most of the time it is the only step needed. Where a film has set hard, hand-warm water with a mild detergent and a thorough rinse will shift it. The drying rule is absolute and worth repeating: ambient air only, however long that takes, with no heat gun, no radiator and no flame, because polyester loses to heat every time.
