DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 00181-11 is a shock absorber spring rated at 45 N/mm, 210 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Measured spring rate 45 N/mm
  • 110 mm of usable stroke
  • Free length 210 mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Öhlins part number 00181-11

How Öhlins Makes Them

Production is Öhlins' own in Sweden, and the tolerance on the rate is what separates these from a generic replacement. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate.

Size and Rate

Free length 210 mm, inner diameter 46 mm, rate 45 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

Choosing 45 N/mm

Rates here suit a solo rider of typical weight on a road-going machine. This is the middle of Öhlins' range — the rate most riders of average weight end up on once sag is set properly. If you are unsure and close to average weight in full kit, this is the sensible starting point. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Rate and the Linkage

Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the rear load enough that the standard rate stops working properly. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise.

Applications

Rather than a model list, use the measurements: a fork that accepts this diameter and length is a candidate, and the rate follows from rider weight. Any workshop with the fork or shock in front of it can answer whether this spring fits — the three figures above are all it needs. Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take.

Fitting

Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed. The springs come powder-coated and need no preparation before they go in. Öhlins states the oil and the air-gap for this application — both are part of the setting, not a detail.

Road Approval

Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
