DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 66422-026 is a shock absorber spring rated at 26 N/mm, 220 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. Rear spring rate sets ride height, static sag and how much of the damper's stroke is actually usable.

Key Features

  • Powder-coated black
  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Measured spring rate 26 N/mm
  • 130 mm of usable stroke
  • Free length 220 mm
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Öhlins part number 66422-026

How Öhlins Makes Them

Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly.

The Numbers That Matter

Öhlins holds the free length at 220 mm and the inner diameter at 46 mm across this rate range, so moving up or down a rate changes nothing about the installation.

What This Rate Does

On a machine ridden solo and mostly on the road, softer is often the honest choice. Comfort and grip come from the spring moving early; this is the end of the range where that happens. Rates in this range suit lighter riders and machines that spend their time on real roads rather than smooth circuits. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Rate and the Linkage

Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Applications

Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take. Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it.

What Fitting Involves

Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed. Both legs are done together, and both take the same rate. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
