DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 01095-59 is a shock absorber spring rated at 150 N/mm, 180 mm long with a 57 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 150 N/mm
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Öhlins part number 01095-59
  • 77 mm of usable stroke
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Free length 180 mm

Manufacture and Tolerance

Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly. The Öhlins part number is stamped on the unit, so its specification can be looked up years later. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips.

The Numbers That Matter

Free length 180 mm, inner diameter 57 mm, rate 150 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

Choosing 150 N/mm

Firm rates also suit machines carrying luggage as a matter of course. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Rate and the Linkage

The rear spring carries the rider, the pillion and the luggage; the front carries only part of it. Progressive springs change rate through the stroke, which suits machines with little travel and a lot of load. Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged.

Applications

Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary. Selection is by measurement. If the diameter and free length match your fork, the remaining question is the rate. Nothing about the installation changes across a rate range: the mounting, the length and the bore stay the same.

Fitting

Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg. The job needs no special tools beyond a fork spring compressor and a measuring rod for the oil level.

Road Approval

Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins suspension rewards careful fitting. We recommend having the work done by an authorised Öhlins service centre — and we are one ourselves: we fit, service and set up Öhlins components in house. If you would like us to handle the installation, just ask and we will quote it with the order.
