DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 60360-03 is a shock absorber spring rated at 15-24 N/mm, 200 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every click a compromise.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 15-24 N/mm (progressive)
  • Free length 200 mm
  • Öhlins part number 60360-03
  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Progressively wound

Why the Rate Holds

Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Öhlins machines its own critical components instead of buying them in, and the tolerances are where the money goes. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get.

Dimensions

Dimensionally this is a 46 mm × 200 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 15-24 N/mm.

What the Rear Spring Decides

On a linkage-equipped machine the wheel moves several millimetres for every millimetre the damper moves, and the spring rate has to account for that ratio. Because the linkage is progressive on most modern machines, a small change in rate moves the sag more than riders expect. Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters.

Applications

Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units. Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork.

What Fitting Involves

Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. Preload spacers usually need shortening or lengthening so the installed length stays correct. Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
