DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 60011-41 is a shock absorber spring rated at 115 N/mm, 230 mm long with a 57 mm inner diameter. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the load enough that the standard rate stops working.

Key Features

  • Öhlins part number 60011-41
  • Measured spring rate 115 N/mm
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Free length 230 mm
  • 100 mm of usable stroke
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Powder-coated yellow

Why the Rate Holds

Each spring is set before it is measured, so it will not settle and lose rate in service. Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch. The Öhlins part number is stamped on the unit, so its specification can be looked up years later.

Dimensions

Free length 230 mm, inner diameter 57 mm, rate 115 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

What This Rate Does

Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. Support under braking improves; small-bump comfort gives a little back. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

How a Rear Spring Works

Two riders 20 kg apart on the same motorcycle genuinely need different rates, not different clicks. The rear spring carries the rider, the pillion and the luggage; the front carries only part of it. Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does.

Applications

This spring is chosen by its dimensions rather than by motorcycle model: check inner diameter, free length and rate against the fork it is going into. Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload.

What Fitting Involves

Check the free length against the old springs before fitting — a sagged original often measures short. Rate and preload are separate adjustments: get the rate right first, then set sag with preload. The fork legs come off, the springs are swapped and the oil level is reset — half a day in most workshops.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
