DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Accossato 17x18 radial brake master cylinder is the straightforward version of Accossato's mid-size brake pump range: a 17 mm piston paired with a fixed 18 mm lever pivot, built for riders who want a dependable, no-fuss front brake without the extra cost of an adjustable or folding lever. CNC machined from aluminium in Italy and finished with natural anodising, it is aimed at calipers with a mounting distance of 32 mm or less, and the fixed pivot keeps the unit light and mechanically simple while still delivering the short passive stroke that defines the whole Accossato radial line.

Key Features

  • 17 mm piston diameter, sized for calipers with a 32 mm mounting distance or less
  • Fixed 18 mm lever pivot, rated for track use and also recommended for the street
  • Fixed lever, long version, fitted with a relieving eyelet (RST)
  • CNC-machined aluminium body with natural anodising
  • Offset riser that limits flex of the master cylinder body under braking
  • Passive lever stroke cut by more than 50 percent against a standard radial unit
  • Stainless steel mounting screws and a zinc-plated bleed valve
  • Seals made from Formula 1 compound material

Construction and Material Quality

This master cylinder is machined entirely in Italy from a block of aluminium and given a natural anodised finish, the same process Accossato applies across its radial brake range. The mounting screws are stainless steel, the bleed valve is zinc-plated steel, and the piston seals are Formula 1 compound, chosen because it keeps its sealing properties through repeated heating and cooling and constant contact with brake fluid. An off-set riser sits in the mounting clamp to cut down on bending of the body when the lever is pulled hard, and the bore and internal passages are shaped to keep the passive stroke, the travel before the pads actually bite, as short as the design allows.

Why a Fixed Pivot and a Fixed Lever

Accossato builds this 17x18 version with a fixed pivot distance rather than the adjustable PRS system found elsewhere in the range, and pairs it with a fixed, non-folding lever to match. Fixing the 18 mm pivot removes a moving part and keeps the geometry of the master cylinder constant from one ride to the next, which suits riders who have already found the lever feel they want and have no interest in changing it. The fixed lever follows the same logic: it is lighter and mechanically simpler than a folding design, at the cost of giving up the ability to pivot back cleanly in a low-speed tip-over. Accossato rates the 17 mm piston for calipers with a 32 mm mounting distance or less, and describes the 18 mm pivot as suited to track riding while also being recommended for street use, so the lever weight sits between a very light touch and a firmer, more immediate bite.

Fitment and Compatibility

No specific vehicle list is published for this master cylinder, and no motorcycles are listed against it in our fitment data; it is supplied as a universal 17 mm radial brake master cylinder for a standard 22 mm handlebar clamp. Before ordering, check that your handlebar is 22 mm in diameter, that your front brake is designed around a 17 mm master cylinder, and that the caliper mounting distance on your motorcycle is 32 mm or less so the piston size is correctly matched to your brake system.

Road Approval

This master cylinder is not supplied with German road-approval documentation; it is intended for track and competition use.

Scope of Delivery

The package includes the Accossato 17x18 radial brake master cylinder fitted with a long fixed lever and relieving eyelet (RST), finished in natural anodised aluminium. Stainless steel mounting screws, the zinc-plated bleed valve and the Formula 1 compound seals are assembled on the unit. The stop light switch, available separately as ID001 or ID002, and the fluid reservoir are not included and must be purchased separately.
