DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Ducati Scrambler 800 stops with a single disc at the front, and that one disc carries the whole load that twin-disc bikes share between two. Accossato's DKS074 is a floating front disc for the Scrambler 800 from 2017 to 2022, listed for the Café Racer and the Desert Sled. It has a 330 mm friction ring, 5 mm thick, on a black carrier, and Accossato describes it as interchangeable with the original equipment disc.

Key Features

  • Floating front disc for the Ducati Scrambler 800, 2017 to 2022
  • Listed for the Café Racer and the Desert Sled
  • 330 mm outer diameter, 72 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick
  • Black carrier with riveted friction ring
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
  • One disc, the complete front requirement of the Scrambler 800
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The DKS074 is a floating design: the 330 mm friction ring is attached to the black carrier by rivets that allow a small amount of movement, so the ring can expand with heat without pulling the carrier out of true. The carrier has a 72 mm centre, and the ring is 5 mm thick. Accossato says its brake discs benefit from experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 and from careful study of the tolerances between carrier and ring, and that their low weight helps steering. The minimum working thickness is printed on the disc.

A Single Disc Up Front

A single large disc keeps the front wheel light and simple, which suits the character of the Scrambler 800. It also means that everything the front brake does passes through one ring. A twin-disc front end splits heat and wear between two discs; here one disc takes it all. On a relaxed ride that makes little difference. On a fast run down a hill road, or with the Café Racer ridden in the spirit its name suggests, the disc works hard and gets hot.

Two practical points follow. First, the condition of this one disc deserves regular attention, because there is no second disc to compensate if it is worn or glazed; measure it at every pad change and compare it with the printed minimum. Second, renewal is simpler than on a twin-disc bike: one disc and one set of pads bring the entire front brake back to new. When fitting, check that the wheel spins freely, clean the new ring before the first ride and bed it in with a series of gradually firmer stops.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DKS074 for the Ducati Scrambler 800 from 2017 to 2022, naming the Café Racer and the Desert Sled. The Scrambler 800 uses one front disc, so a single DKS074 is all it takes. For the rear wheel, Accossato lists the fixed DK008.

Road Approval

A German ABE and a type approval are not documented for the DKS074. It is for use on the circuit and in competition.
