DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ask riders who have done a full season of track days on a Monster 1200 R and many will mention their forearms. Hard braking, lap after lap, tires the muscles that close the right hand, and as they tire the lever can start to feel further away than it did at the start. Accossato's RA002 is a folding brake lever with a 90-degree remote adjuster for the 2016 to 2019 Monster 1200 R. The left hand makes the adjustment on the move, and the throttle hand never has to let go.
Key Features
- For the Monster 1200 R, 2016 to 2019
- Folding brake lever with a 90-degree remote adjuster
- Setting changed by the left hand while riding
- Holder in 35 mm or 60 mm
- Replaces the lever on the original brake master cylinder
- Black base, blade in black, blue, gold, green, orange, red or silver
- RST or NRST blade
- Machined from aluminium and anodised
Construction and Material Quality
The lever of the RA002 is machined from aluminium and anodised, with a black base at the pivot and a coloured blade hinged to it, so the blade can fold if it is struck. The difference from a standard folding lever lies in the remote adjuster: Accossato designed it so the lever setting can be changed away from the lever itself. Its holder comes in 35 mm or 60 mm. For the blade you choose between seven colours, and between the RST version with its lightening cut-out and the plain NRST blade.
When the Forearm Starts to Tire
Fatigue in the forearm creeps up on you, even on a naked bike like the Monster 1200 R. In the first laps the fingers close on the brake lever with ease; later in a long session the squeeze feels harder, the grip on the bar gets tighter, and the right arm stiffens just when it should stay loose. Many riders find that bringing the lever a little closer at that point makes the effort feel smaller, because the fingers no longer have to open as far before they start to pull.
On the Monster 1200 R, the RA002 lets you do that without stopping. On a straight, the left hand changes the setting a small amount through the remote adjuster, and the next braking zone tells you whether it helped. It is not a cure for tired arms; fitness, a relaxed grip and a sound body position matter far more. But it lets the lever follow the rider through a session instead of the other way round, and should the session end in the gravel, the hinged blade may fold rather than break.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's entry for the RA002 covers the Monster 1200 R of 2016 to 2019, its US version included, and the lever mounts on the original brake master cylinder. The LV013 is the folding brake lever without the remote adjuster for the same bike, and the LV015 the folding clutch lever. Both are listed for 2016 to 2019.
Road Approval
For track use: this lever has no German ABE on record.
