It is a different material — a special non-woven fabric, worked dry like everything else in the range, rated at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec where the standard weave for this airbox sits at 80 microns and 5,050. Those two figures always move together and in opposite directions, and choosing a medium means choosing which of them to favour. On a CFMOTO NK 250 the flow side is the easy one to let go.

Key Features

Dry non-woven material rated at 14 microns — the fine end of what fits this airbox

A rated 1,800 l/m²/sec, given up deliberately in return for the finer filtration

Runs without oil, so nothing off the element travels towards a sensor or throttle body

About double the filtering surface of a conventional performance element

Takes the original panel's outline in the series NK 250 airbox; no remap needed

Cleaned instead of replaced, warranted two years, specified for the life of the bike

Why a 250 can afford it

Flow ratings are quoted per square metre of material, and how much of that an engine actually uses depends on its capacity and on the way it is ridden. A 250 asks for a modest share, and asks for it in short bursts on public roads rather than in the sustained wide-open running that empties an intake's reserve. Give up the greater part of a rated flow figure on a machine like this and there is generally nothing at the other end to register it, because the surplus was never being spent. The same decision under a much larger engine, worked hard, would be a different conversation.

What the figures say, and what they leave out

Sprint Filter publishes retention percentages for some of its media; for the P14 it gives the aperture and the flow rate instead. That is worth knowing before numbers get compared across a catalogue — not every medium is described by the same measurements, and a figure that is absent is not a figure that is poor. The direction is plain enough on its own: 14 microns is a much smaller opening than 80, and a smaller opening holds back more of what a dry road throws up. What no medium does is add power. A drop-in filter will not make a standard NK 250 noticeably stronger; the PM227P14 is bought for what it keeps out.

Care and cleaning

Servicing consumes nothing. Air from the clean side of the element first, moved across the whole panel; water only where a film has formed that air cannot shift — lukewarm, with a trace of mild detergent, rinsed out fully. Then patience: open air, room temperature, no heater, no hot-air gun, no flame, and no refitting until the material is dry all the way through. Nothing is applied to it afterwards. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab on this page.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the CFMOTO NK 250 of 2018 and 2019, one element per machine.
