Everything else in this range is a weave. PM176P14 is not. Where the P08 and the racing cloth are woven polyester, with threads crossing in two directions and an opening between them, the P14 is a nonwoven: fibres laid down and bonded rather than crossed, forming a mat with no regular grid to speak of. That is why the thread-diameter figure quoted for the woven media has nothing to describe here, and why 14 microns is reached in a single dry layer instead of by stacking several.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven polyester — a mat of bonded fibres rather than a woven cloth, and never oiled
- Rated at 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec, listed by Sprint Filter for dusty conditions
- Reaches that fineness in one layer, without the stacked gauze a traditional element depends on
- About double the working area of a typical performance element, in the standard panel frame
- A direct exchange for the paper panel in the series airbox — no modification, no remapping
- Regenerated with air and reused, built for the life of the machine, two years of warranty
Why the material class matters
A woven medium gets finer by pulling its grid tighter, and that route reaches a point where the cloth is as much barrier as filter. A nonwoven works through depth instead: particles are held within the thickness of the mat, not only at its face, so one layer can be selective without becoming a wall. On the Tuono the practical result is an element that reads 14 µm on the specification sheet and still occupies the standard housing at the standard thickness, with the enlarged surface doing the remainder of the work.
What that does not change
The trade is still a trade. At 1,800 l/m²/sec this medium passes roughly a third of what the standard weave for the same airbox passes, and depth filtration does not repeal that — it only makes the fineness affordable in a single layer. Nor does any of it touch output: an element slotted into an unmodified airbox leaves a homologated naked twin producing precisely what it produced with the paper panel in place. Fit this one because of where the Tuono goes, and for no other reason.
Care and cleaning
Nothing in the routine changes because the medium is a mat rather than a weave. Compressed air, applied to the clean face and moved steadily across the whole surface, pushes the load back out along its entry path. That is the service, and on PM176P14 it is worth doing properly, since a nonwoven catches in depth and wants clearing through rather than dusting off. Stubborn residue washes out in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, followed by a thorough rinse and a long, unhurried dry in ordinary air. Never with heat — polyester, hot-air guns, radiators and flames do not mix — and never with oil. Downloads has the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the standard airbox of the Aprilia Tuono, listed under the model years 2021 to 2026. A second Aprilia entry shares the element, the RS660 across the same listed span, and both are set out with their model years in the Fitment tab.
