When 65 mm Is the Right Number

Bigger engines and freer systems. A 65 mm inlet passes more gas at the same velocity than a 60 does, which matters on a large-capacity four or on a build where the header diameters are already generous. On a smaller engine the wider mouth costs gas speed and gains nothing.

The honest way to choose is by what your link pipe measures, and by what the engine displaces. If you tell us both, we will tell you which of the two we would order.

One Point Three Kilos

That is the whole silencer, cap included. For comparison, Spark's stainless universal cases of similar length sit between one and a half and one and six kilos, and an original-equipment silencer on a litre-class bike is routinely three or four times this figure.

Titanium is expensive per kilogram and this article contains very few of them, which is the whole argument for buying it.

The Carbon Cap

Carbon at the outlet is not decoration. It is the part of the silencer that takes the most heat cycling and the most stone damage, and a woven cap tolerates both better than a thin titanium lip would. It also keeps mass off the far end of the case, which is where it does the most harm.

Fitting It

Through a bracket at the case and a fabricated link pipe at the inlet. Neither is supplied. Spark's universal holders, bent tubes and straight tubes are listed separately and are made for this work.

Three Hundred Millimetres

The same case length as the 60 mm version, which matters when a build has a fixed space between the mounting point and the tail. Choosing the wider inlet does not cost you room; it only changes what the link pipe has to meet.
