DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pads and discs work together, and they wear together. On a Yamaha XSR900 GP ridden briskly, the pads usually go first, but every set of pads also takes a little of the disc with it, and sooner or later both are due at once. Accossato lists the DKS073 as a front disc for the XSR900 GP of 2024 and 2025: a floating design with a black carrier, a friction ring of 298 mm and 5 mm, and five mounting holes on a 150 mm circle.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Yamaha XSR900 GP, 2024 and 2025
- Friction ring riveted to a black carrier
- 298 mm outside diameter, 132 mm inside diameter, 5 mm thick
- Five 8.5 mm holes on a 150 mm hole circle
- Interchangeable with the original disc, per Accossato
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc supplied; the XSR900 GP needs two for the front
- No German ABE documented; for the track
Construction and Material Quality
The DKS073 is built from two parts. The friction ring takes the braking load and is 5 mm thick; the black carrier holds it through a circle of rivets and bolts to the wheel through five 8.5 mm holes on a 150 mm circle around a 132 mm centre. Accossato describes the disc as interchangeable with the original. Like every Accossato disc, it carries its minimum working thickness in print, the number that decides when it has to go.
Pads and Discs as One Job
Fitting new pads to worn discs is tempting because it is quick and cheap, but it rarely gives the result riders expect. A used disc is no longer truly flat: it has a slight step at the outer edge where the pads never reach, and often faint grooves across the braking surface. Fresh pads touch only the high spots at first, so the brake feels wooden until they have worn to the shape of the disc, and they wear unevenly while doing so.
For an XSR900 GP, a practical rule is to measure the discs every time the pads are changed. If the thickness is still well above the printed minimum and the surface is smooth, new pads alone make sense. If the discs are close to the limit, scored, or have a pronounced lip, change discs and pads together and bed them in as a set. Replace the pads in both calipers at the same time so both sides of the front wheel brake alike. While the calipers are off, clean the pistons with a soft brush and brake cleaner and check that they move freely; a sticking piston wears one pad faster than the other and can leave the disc unevenly worn.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS073 for the XSR900 GP from 2024 to 2025, as a replacement for either of the two original front discs. Two are needed to renew the whole front brake of the XSR900 GP, since the price is for one disc. The Elite-line DK077 is listed for the same years. Tighten the fixing bolts as Yamaha specifies, with the hub faces clean. If you are changing both discs and all pads, work on one side at a time, so the untouched side shows how everything goes back together.
Road Approval
For the DKS073 there is neither a German ABE nor a documented type approval. It is intended for circuit riding.
