DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Monster 1200 R arrived for 2016 as the most focused member of the big Monster family, and many of them spend part of their lives at track days. That brings a particular risk: a low-speed slide in a hairpin, the bike on its side in the gravel, and a ride home that depends on what is left of the controls. The Accossato LV013 is a folding front brake lever for the Monster 1200 R from 2016 to 2019, with adjustable reach and a hinged blade machined from aluminium.
Key Features
- For the Ducati Monster 1200 R, 2016 to 2019
- Folding blade on a hinge, black base at the pivot
- Replaces the original lever on the stock brake master cylinder
- Reach adjuster built into the base
- Machined from aluminium and anodised
- Eight blade colours: black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver, titanium
- Choice of RST lightening cut-out or solid blade
Construction and Material Quality
Every LV013 starts as aluminium that is machined on CNC equipment and then anodised. It is built in two sections. The black section is the base, which sits at the pivot and holds the adjuster; the coloured section is the blade, connected to the base by a hinge. On a naked bike like the Monster 1200 R, where the levers are in full view, that split gives a dark, quiet area around the master cylinder and a blade in the colour you prefer, titanium among them. The blade can be ordered plain or with the RST lightening cut-out.
The First Slide and the Ride Home
Most crashes at track days are not dramatic. A front tyre that is not yet warm, a slightly early turn-in, and the bike slides away at modest speed and comes to rest in the gravel trap. Riders walk away from these lowsides every weekend, and the question that follows is always the same: can the bike be ridden back to the paddock, and later home? On a Monster 1200 R that came to the circuit on its own wheels, the answer often depends on the levers.
A folding blade gives the brake lever a chance. If it strikes the ground at an angle, it can pivot on its hinge instead of snapping off, so there may still be a usable lever to pull. There are no guarantees in a crash, and after any fall the whole front brake deserves a careful inspection by someone who knows what to look for before you ride on. But arriving home with the bike under you is a lot better than waiting in the car park for a recovery truck.
Fitment and Compatibility
The LV013 is listed for the Monster 1200 R of 2016 to 2019, including the US version in Accossato's list. It takes the place of the stock brake lever on the original master cylinder. For the clutch side of the same model years, Accossato offers the LV015, and the RA002 adds a brake lever with a remote adjuster for riders who race.
Road Approval
Sold for track use: no German ABE is documented for this brake lever.
