DescriptionThe whole story▼
Some Z650RS riders remember motorcycles from the era its styling recalls, when many bikes still stopped with drum brakes and a lever was squeezed with the whole fist. The Z650RS looks the part, with its round headlight and lines borrowed from Kawasaki's Z models of the 1970s, but its front brake is thoroughly modern and needs far less force. The Accossato EDF021 is an aluminium brake lever for the Kawasaki Z650RS, listed for 2022 to 2024. CNC-machined and anodised, it mounts on the original master cylinder and has an adjustable reach, so the lever can be set for a modern touch.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Kawasaki Z650RS, 2022 to 2024
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
- Silver or black blade for a classic look, or one of five other colours
- Standard length about 138 mm; short in five colours, long in four
- Hub always black; rigid lever without hinge
Construction and Material Quality
On a retro-styled bike, machined parts become part of the look, and the EDF021 is made the way such parts should be: CNC-machined from aluminium, then anodised. The anodising gives the blade a deep, even colour that belongs to the metal itself, so there is no paint to chip at the edges. The hub is black in every case. With a silver blade to suit the Z650RS's classic lines, or a black one for a darker look, the lever looks as if it had come with the bike. It is fixed, with no folding joint.
From Drum Brakes to Discs
Old habits can be too strong for a modern brake. A rider used to drums, or to the early discs of the 1970s, tends to grab the lever hard and fast, expecting to need force, and on a current twin-disc front end that can overwhelm the tyre before the fork has had time to settle. The modern way is lighter: a gentle first squeeze to load the front, then a steady increase. Two fingers are usually plenty for everyday riding. Setting the EDF021 closer to the grip helps retrain the hand, because a lever that meets the fingers early invites a squeeze rather than a grab. Try it on a quiet road, braking from moderate speeds and noticing how little lever movement the Z650RS needs. For the look, a silver blade echoes the brightwork of the bikes you may remember, and it is available in the standard length of approximately 138 mm and as a short lever.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Z650RS appears in Accossato's list as Z 650 RS, with the years 2022 to 2024. The EDF021 replaces the stock lever on its original front master cylinder. No Accossato clutch lever is listed for the Z650RS, so this is a change for the brake side only.
Road Approval
For the EDF021 no German ABE is documented; we offer it for use on closed circuits.
