Three media are catalogued for this airbox, and their prices rise in the same order as their flow ratings: the T12 at 560 l/m²/sec, the standard P08 at 5,050, and the racing panel on this page at 15,000, listed at about two and a half times the standard element. Read that column alone and it looks like a quality ladder with this product at the top. It is not one. Sort the same three by how fine the cloth is and the order inverts — 7 microns, 80 microns, and 85 here. The dearest of the three is also the coarsest. Price is tracking throughput, not filtration.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester at 85 microns, rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- The fastest-flowing medium in the range, and the coarsest of the three offered here
- Retention measured at 95.22 % of 100-micron particles, against 93.13 % for the P08
- Standard frame and sealing face: no airbox modification, no recalibration
- Roughly twice the filtering fabric of an ordinary performance element
- Washed with compressed air and refitted; two-year warranty from purchase
Coarser, and yet it held back more
The two published retention results for these cloths do not follow the aperture figures either. Tested against 100-micron particles, this weave held 95.22 % and the standard one 93.13 %, even though its openings are the wider pair. There is no trick in that: 100 microns is well above both apertures, so both stop nearly all of it, and the small difference was measured up in that band and not down at the limit. The point to carry away is narrow but useful — a micron rating describes the cloth, a percentage describes one test, and neither is a score. Below the test band, the finer media in the range still hold back what this one lets through.
Who the fast cloth is for
Riders whose SRT 800 sees circuit sessions and who service the intake as part of the routine rather than once a season. That is the context the specification was drawn for, and it comes with an obligation: the coarser aperture means the seal, the lid and the inspection interval matter more, not less. What it does not come with is extra performance on a standard machine. No slot-in element makes an unmodified SRT 800 noticeably stronger, this one included. It offers a very high rated throughput and a restriction that returns to its own baseline at every wash — nothing beyond that.
Care and cleaning
Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air so that whatever the weave caught leaves by the way it came. A film that air will not lift comes away under hand-warm water with a small amount of mild detergent, followed by rinsing until nothing more runs out of the cloth. Drying happens in ambient air only, never against heat or flame, and the PM281S F1-85 is refitted dry and untreated. Its maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab on this page.
