DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Z1000 has been Kawasaki's big naked four for a long time, and the bikes built between 2007 and 2017 cover several shapes of it, including the sharply styled generation introduced for 2014. Many of them now belong to owners who do their own servicing, and on a four-cylinder naked bike a good part of the bigger jobs happens with the tank raised or removed. For the Z1000 of 2007 to 2017, Accossato lists the FC143, a quick-release fuel tank cap machined from aluminium, whose pawl pin comes in six colours.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Kawasaki Z1000, 2007 to 2017
  • Accossato entries: Z 1000 and Z 1000 with ABS, both 2007 to 2017
  • CNC-machined aluminium throughout, robust and durable per Accossato
  • Quick-closing pawl
  • Pin colours: blue, green, black, red, silver, gold
  • Replacement pawl sold on its own
  • No German ABE documented; for the track

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato, based in Villastellone near Turin, mills the complete FC143 from aluminium on CNC machines and says it is sturdy and made to last. Its shape is a fresh design. The quick-closing pawl opens the Z1000's tank with a short movement and shuts it again with little effort, and its pin is offered in six colours. A damaged pawl is available on its own as a spare, which means a knock to the catch does not put the whole cap out of use.

When the Tank Has to Come Up

Spark plugs, the air filter and the valve cover all lie beneath the tank on a bike laid out like the Z1000, so a proper service often begins with raising or removing it. Plan the job around the fuel level: a tank with little in it is lighter, easier to handle and less likely to spill. Before you start, make sure the engine is cold, the bike stands securely and the workshop is ventilated, with nothing nearby that could spark. Check that the cap is fully closed before the tank is tilted or lifted, because an open filler is the quickest way to pour fuel over the engine. Disconnect hoses and connectors as the workshop manual describes, and set the tank down on a soft, clean surface, well away from heaters and power tools. When it goes back on, look along every connection and around the FC143 for any sign of fuel before you start the Z1000 again.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FC143 for the Z1000 from 2007 to 2017 in two entries, one for the bike with ABS and one without that note, both covering the same years. The same cap is listed with us for the Z1000R, the Z1000SX and the Z800. Confirm your model year and version against the application list before you order.

Road Approval

The FC143 comes without a German ABE or a documented parts certificate, so it belongs on the circuit. On the road the Z1000 should run with its original cap, which normally opens only with the key.

Scope of Delivery
