DescriptionThe whole story▼
The S 1000 XR is often ridden two-up, with a passenger who has booked a week in the mountains and a pair of panniers on the rack. Once the bike is rolling, a pillion is easy to live with; the tricky moments come at a standstill, when the passenger climbs on or off and the weight of a tall machine shifts suddenly to one side. For the S 1000 XR of 2015 to 2018, Accossato lists the TP083 crash pads: two protectors machined from aluminium, each with an anodised insert in one of six colours and an optional screw cover in the same shade.

Construction and Material Quality
The TP083 is cut from aluminium on CNC machines, and each pad carries an anodised insert. That insert is where the colour comes in: blue, green, black, red, silver or gold, chosen when you order. If you pick the version with a screw cover, the cover arrives anodised in the same colour, so the fixing sits behind a matching cap. The pack contains two pads. Accossato also points out that its crash pads require the fairing to be drilled on some motorcycles, but its application list does not say which ones. Before ordering for your S 1000 XR, please ask us whether that applies.
When the Passenger Climbs On
Riders who travel two-up develop a routine. The rider gets on first, takes the weight of the bike off the side stand, plants both feet firmly and then gives the signal. The passenger puts a foot on the peg, holds the rider's shoulders or the grab rail and swings over in one smooth movement. Trouble starts when the order changes: the passenger climbs on while the bike is still on its stand, or leans on one side before the rider is ready. The S 1000 XR is tall, and an unannounced shift of weight can be more than a leg can hold. In a slow topple like that, the fairing and frame are among the first things to reach the ground, and crash pads are meant to take that contact. They can reduce the damage, particularly to costly fairing panels, but they do not rule it out. After such a fall, look at the pads, their mounting and the panels around them before riding on, and agree a clear signal with your passenger for next time.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the TP083 for the S 1000 XR from 2015 to 2018. The same bike also has the PF057 front axle sliders and the PP001 rear axle sliders on the list, so the set can be completed. Whether your fairing needs drilling is something we clarify with you before the order. After fitting, swing the handlebar from lock to lock and check that no cable, hose or panel touches the pads.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE or test mark for the TP083 in our records, so we offer it for racing and track use.
