DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every motocross track is flat. Many of the classic European circuits are built into hillsides, and their steepest downhills end in a turn at the bottom. On a GasGas MC 450F, a big and powerful four-stroke, those downhills ask a lot of the front brake: speed builds quickly, the front end is loaded, and braking has to be firm without locking the wheel. Accossato's B8283, a folding brake lever for the MC 450F of 2021 and 2022, is machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the GasGas MC 450F, 2021–2022
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade, three-finger design
- Anti-break joint, in Accossato's naming, lets the blade fold forward instead of breaking
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade; dark base
- One lever
- No German ABE documented; for motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, now based in Villastellone just outside Turin, makes its off-road levers in Italy, and the B8283 is cut on CNC machines from solid Ergal 7075. That high-strength aluminium alloy is chosen for a lever meant to be strong, light and reliable. Two parts make it up: a dark base mounted at the master cylinder pivot and a blade in the colour you order, attached by a joint that lets it fold. The brake blade has Accossato's short shape, designed for three fingers.
Downhill Into the Turn
A downhill braking zone is different from a flat one. The bike's weight is already pitched forward, the front tyre carries more load, and the rear has less grip for its share of the braking. On a 450 the speed at the top of the hill is high, and a rider who waits too long to brake finds the turn at the bottom arriving much faster than expected. Braking early and progressively, with the weight back and the front brake squeezed firmly but smoothly, is the safe way down.
If the front washes out on the way into the turn, the MC 450F usually lands on its side and slides downhill, sometimes a long way, with the brake lever pressed into the ground. The B8283's joint gives that blade the possibility of folding forward rather than snapping, so that when the rider picks the bike up at the bottom, the front brake may still work for the next descent. Nothing guarantees that outcome, but the odds are better than with a solid lever, and on a hillside track the next downhill is never far away.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8283 for the GasGas MC 450F of 2021 and 2022, the four-stroke motocross bike, where it takes the place of the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder. The C7283 folding clutch lever is its counterpart for those years, offered in red as well as black, blue and orange.
Road Approval
Accossato's B8283 comes without a German ABE. It is intended for motocross and closed off-road courses, where the MC 450F is used anyway.
