DescriptionThe whole story▼
KTM's 200 Duke is a small, light single-cylinder naked bike, and for many owners it is the step up from a 125 to something with a little more room to breathe. Its front brake works on a single disc, which is plenty for a bike this light as long as the hand applies the force cleanly. Accossato's EDF039 replaces the original lever with a machined aluminium one, adjustable for reach and made in three blade lengths; it is listed for 2012, for 2014 to 2016 and again for 2021.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the KTM 200 Duke: 2012, 2014 to 2016 and 2021
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach to suit hand size and gloves
- Short, standard (about 138 mm) and long blades
- Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- Machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- No folding joint anywhere in the blade
Construction and Material Quality
A lever looks simple, but it is really a small beam that has to carry the whole squeeze of your hand around a pivot without flexing or developing play. The EDF039 is cut on CNC machines from aluminium, which gives that beam a consistent section and puts the pivot bore in the same place every time, and it is anodised afterwards, the hub in black and the blade in whichever colour you order. The blade is fixed, with no joint half way along, so on the 200 Duke the pressure your fingers apply reaches the master cylinder without being softened by give in the lever.
More Leverage From a Longer Blade
A brake lever is a lever in the physical sense: the further from the pivot your fingers pull, the more force reaches the master cylinder for the same effort. That is why blade length is more than a question of looks. The long version of the EDF039 gives your middle, ring and little fingers somewhere to pull well away from the pivot, which lowers the effort needed for a firm stop. For riders who are still building confidence with the front brake, or whose hands tire quickly, that makes a noticeable difference on the 200 Duke, where the single disc rewards a determined, steady squeeze more than a quick dab. The standard blade sits closest to the original lever and suits most riders. The short blade works the other way round: it is meant for two-finger braking and keeps the outer fingers free, at the cost of some leverage. Whichever you choose, set the reach first, in the gloves you ride in, so your fingers meet the blade comfortably, and try a few firm stops in a safe place before relying on the new feel.
Fitment and Compatibility
Three entries on Accossato's list cover the 200 Duke: the 2012 model year, 2014 to 2016, and 2021. The 2013 model year and the years from 2017 to 2020 are not included. The lever fits the bike's own master cylinder. For the clutch side, Accossato names the ESK390, listed for the 200 Duke from 2014 to 2016 and for 2021, in the same colours and lengths.
Road Approval
Because no German ABE has been documented for the EDF039, we offer it for track use.
