But it is a rate per square metre, which means the area it acts on decides what actually reaches the engine — and this element carries roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance filters, folded into the same box the Continental GT35 EFI left the factory with. That is why a 14 µm medium can be offered as a drop-in part at all, rather than as a compromise you have to live with.

Key Features

Special non-woven, used dry, filtering down to 14 µm

Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec per square metre of clean medium

About twice the filtering surface of other performance elements, within the standard airbox

No oil at any point — nothing upstream of the throttle body that was not there before

Fits the 535 cm³ machine of 2015 to 2018 without modification or remapping

Serviced by washing rather than by replacement; two-year warranty

Rate against area

Flow figures describe cloth, not finished filters. Two elements of the same medium in different sizes pass different amounts of air while sharing one specification, which is why the surface a manufacturer manages to fold into a given housing matters as much as the name printed on the label. Sprint Filter's pleating is where the CM195P14 recovers a large part of what the fine medium gives away, and it is the reason a fine medium can run in a series airbox without the standard box becoming the limiting element.

What it is for, and what it is not

This is the fine end of a three-medium card — 14, 80 and 85 µm — and it is specified for dust, everyday running and long distances rather than for speed. A drop-in filter does not make a standard machine noticeably stronger, and the 535 is no exception; the honest benefit is a low, stable resistance and a part that comes out, gets cleaned and goes back in for as long as the motorcycle lasts. Where roads are clean and sealed the 80 µm weave remains the more sensible rung, and it passes almost three times as much air per square metre.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air, clean side first, worked outwards across the whole surface of the CM195P14 — that is the routine, and for dust it is usually all of it. Greasy residue calls for lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then a careful rinse. Everything after that is drying, in open air and at room temperature only; heat is the one treatment that damages the medium permanently. Refit dry, untreated. Three more machines share this number: the Classic 500 built between 2009 and 2020, and the Bullet B5 500 EFI and Bullet Trials 500 EFI, both listed from 2011 to 2026.
