There is a straightforward way to work out who a part was drawn for, and it is not the marketing copy. Sprint Filter lists this element at a little over twice the standard woven panel for the same airbox, and at around three times the fine nonwoven that also fits it. Nothing about the machine changes between those three boxes: the housing is identical, the fitment is identical, the installation is identical. What is being paid for is the cloth, and specifically its throughput. PM210S F1-85 is the racing specification for this airbox, catalogued as one.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester, supplied without oil and never given any afterwards
- An 85-micron weave rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow figure in the range
- Retention measured at 95.22 % of 100-micron particles, against 93.13 % for the standard P08
- Fits the series airbox of the FTR without modification, adapter or remapping
- Roughly twice the filtering fabric of other performance elements, in the original frame
- Cleaned with compressed air and refitted, with two years of warranty from purchase
What the difference is buying
Not filtration: the rating is 85 microns where the standard panel is 80, so this weave is fractionally the more open of the two. Not fitment either, since all three media drop into the same box. It is the flow rating, 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050, and that figure only returns anything if something in the intake or exhaust path is in a position to ask for it. On an otherwise standard machine the airbox and throttle bodies run out of appetite long before the cloth does. This element belongs on a bike built for a purpose, and the catalogue says so by calling it a racing part.
The claim not being made
It will not make a standard 1200 noticeably stronger. No slot-in element does, whatever the weave, and a listing that hints otherwise is selling a story rather than a part. What holds true for every medium in this catalogue holds here too: the gain is a lower and more stable intake restriction across the service interval, and a component that is cleaned rather than bought again. Which trim is on the tank makes no difference to that, incidentally, since the standard 1200 and the S take the identical element.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air held to the clean face and worked outwards is the whole of a normal service; the load leaves the weave by the route it arrived. Where a film has built up that air will not lift, hand-warm water and a little mild detergent will, rinsed until the water runs off clear. Drying is unhurried and ambient, because heat is what damages polyester: no hot-air gun, no radiator, no flame. The PM210S F1-85 returns to the box dry and untreated, exactly as it left the packet. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Indian FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S, 2019 to 2026, one element per machine in the unmodified series airbox. Two further listings take this code, the Rally and the Carbon, both from 2020 onwards, three machines in total. Confirm your year under the Fitment tab.
