Most of the case for a washable air filter gets made about old motorcycles — the ones whose spares are quietly going out of production. The Triumph Speed 400 stands at the other end of that story. The range arrived in 2024 and is still being added to, so its owners are the first people ever to shop for parts for it, just when an aftermarket has had the least time to build up behind it.
Key Features
- Dry single-layer polyester fabric; no oil when new and none at any service after
- Filtration at 80 microns, rated for 5,050 l/m²/sec of air flow
- Polyester threads from 22 microns across — that figure is the thread, not the gaps between them
- Goes into the standard airbox as supplied: box, lid and fuelling all stay as they are
- Filtering area roughly twice what a comparable performance element brings to the same housing
- Washed and refitted rather than bought again; rated for the life of the bike, covered two years from purchase
Parts for a range that is still being written
A model line three years old has very little parts history behind it, and consumables are the part of that history that matters soonest. The airbox will want attention long before anything structural does, and the earliest owners have the fewest places to turn when it does. A dry polyester element steps around that rather than solving it: no filter kit on a shelf, nothing to reorder, no dependence on how well stocked a supplier is in five years. The same argument usually gets made for a discontinued motorcycle; here it holds for the opposite reason.
What 80 microns is, and what it is not
Filter media are a trade, never a ranking: a finer weave holds back more and lets less through, a coarser one does the reverse. The P08 sits at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road-and-track setting rather than an extreme in either direction. In Sprint Filter's own comparison it retains 93.13 percent of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 percent for a four-layer oiled cotton filter. Worth saying plainly: none of this makes a standard Speed 400 feel quicker. What it does is duller and more useful — a lower resistance on the intake side, and a service item that gets serviced instead of bought.
Care and cleaning
Servicing CM267S means taking it out and blowing it through against the direction of flow, from the clean face outwards, with compressed air. Where grime has gone deeper than air will shift, water and a mild washing-up detergent do the rest; rinse and let it dry on its own. Never use heat or a flame to hurry that along, and never refit it damp. Nothing is oiled at the end, so there is no re-oiling step and nothing that can travel downstream onto a sensor. The full maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Triumph Speed 400 across model years 2024 to 2026. The same part number serves three machines in Triumph's 400 range, all sharing the one airbox; the compatibility list on this page names each with its own year span, one of them starting later than the rest.
