Why 102 Is the Number That Matters

A static noise test is pass or fail, and it happens before you get on the circuit rather than after. Two decibels over and the day is finished in the paddock. Spark builds three STEP 3 configurations for the R6 and quotes a figure for two of them: 102 dB here, 106 for the Konix Evo version.

That four-decibel spread is the whole reason both exist. If your events run to 102, this is the only one of the three that Spark states will make it.

The Force Evo Case

Recognisable without a badge: ribs run back along the titanium body and converge towards the end cap, which stiffens the sleeve and gives the case its taper. The EVO range is the one Spark finishes with a racing-style carbon end cap.

The ribbing is not styling. A ribbed sleeve of a given wall thickness is stiffer than a smooth one, so the case can stay thin — and thin is where the weight saving lives on a titanium silencer.

Eight Hundred Grams Over the Grid-O

4.2 kg here, against 3.4 for the Grid-O build and 4.0 for the Konix Evo. The Grid-O is the lighter kit and it is also cheaper, but Spark publishes no noise figure for it. What you are paying the difference for is a documented number to show at scrutineering.

Developed on the Italian Championship

Spark's R6 system took the SSP600 title in Italy in 2019 and 2020, and recorded 275.50 km/h at Mugello at the opening round. Those figures come from a full race machine in Supersport configuration, which is exactly the engine STEP 3 was developed around.

Worth saying plainly: the figure is Spark's, measured on their bike, and every circuit runs its own meter. Treat 102 as the design target rather than a guarantee, and if your series is strict, ask us and we will send you what Spark documents.

Installation

Full system: the standard collector comes off and Spark's replaces it entirely. The STEP 3 connections are machined from solid on a CNC, which is what makes the collector joints repeatable when the system is taken apart between sessions.

Yamaha R6 and YZF-R6 Race, 2006 to 2026. The Grid-O version is GYA8875T and the Konix Evo version GYA8877T. The Force Evo silencer on its own, for the 2017-onwards bike, is GYA8873ST.
