What It Is
This one measures 12 mm, 151 mm, and those figures are what separate it from the neighbouring numbers. This is a part that is replaced rather than repaired. Öhlins hardens and surface-treats its shafts because a scratch on the running surface takes the seal with it. Shafts are not shortened or extended; the length is the specification.
Why the Original
Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. Parts remain available years after a unit leaves the current price list, which is unusual in this trade. The Öhlins exploded view names the number for each position; we can look it up if you do not have it. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise.
How to Be Sure It Fits
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 00102-09 in this case. diameter 12 mm, length 151 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. A shaft is measured by diameter and overall length, and both are specific to the unit it belongs to. Chrome or nitride treatment is what lets the shaft run in a seal for thousands of kilometres.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
