DescriptionThe whole story▼
When Honda rebuilt the CB1000R for 2018 under the Neo Sports Café heading, the idea was to show the machine rather than dress it. Metal is left visible, surfaces are finished rather than hidden, and the eye is invited towards the engine instead of away from it. A design like that raises the stakes for every small component on the outside, the oil filler cap included. Accossato's FP004 answers with CNC-machined aluminium, an M20x2.5 thread and a choice of eight anodised colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Honda CB1000R of 2018
- Accossato names the Neo Sports Café version in its list
- M20x2.5 thread, the size the maker quotes
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, colour applied by anodising
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Fits other motorcycles with a filler of the same size
- No German ABE on file; listed for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Anodising is the reason a coloured aluminium part can live outdoors without going patchy: the colour is formed in the surface of the metal instead of being laid on it. Accossato uses that finish on the FP004 in eight shades, and machines the cap itself from aluminium on CNC equipment. The thread is M20x2.5, which is the one dimension the maker publishes, because it is the one that decides whether a cap belongs on a particular engine. Beyond its own application list, Accossato states that motorcycles with a filler of the same size can use the cap as well. On a machine designed to be looked at, titanium and black recede and gold or red do not.
A Design With Nowhere to Hide
If the engine is on display, the routine around it may as well be tidy too. Check the oil on the CB1000R with the engine cold, ideally before the first ride of the day, and hold the machine in the position the owner's manual describes while you read the level; every engine has its own procedure and guessing is not one of them. Clean around the filler before opening it, because on a bike whose casings are in plain view, the dust that settles there is both visible and ready to fall inside. Look over the thread and the sealing face on cap and cover alike. If oil is needed, add it in small amounts, checking between each, and use the grade the handbook names. Turn the FP004 in by hand until it seats and then leave it; there is no torque figure to chase and nothing to gain from force. After the first ride, a glance underneath at the casing tells you the work is finished, and on this motorcycle that glance takes no effort at all.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP004 for the CB1000R in 2018 and names the Neo Sports Café version in the same entry. Fit is governed by the M20x2.5 thread, so other machines with that filler size are covered too; in our catalogue the identical cap appears for the Hypermotard 950, the Monster 1200 and the Hyperstrada 821. Note that the earlier CB 1000 R is a separate entry in the application list, so check which generation you are ordering for. Where an engine cover has been replaced, measure the thread first.
Road Approval
No ABE and no test certificate for the FP004 have been supplied to us, and the cap is therefore sold for racing and competition use.
