A filter rating is not a wall, it is a threshold — the size at which a medium begins to hold back what arrives at it. Read two together and the interesting part is the gap. This element is rated at 7 microns, the P08 weave for the same airbox at 80. Coarse grit is arrested by either of them, and anything very much finer than 7 microns passes through whichever one is fitted. What the Sprint Filter PM155T12 actually buys a 790 Adventure is the band in between: the fraction a P08 lets through and a 7-micron mat does not.
Key Features
- Dry polyester nonwoven: 7 µm filtration at a rated flow of 560 l/m²/sec
- Against the P08's 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec, roughly a ninth of the passage per square metre
- Oil-free throughout, so no film can migrate onto a hot-film sensor downstream
- Slots into the standard airbox where the original panel sat; no modification, no remap
- Regenerated with compressed air instead of replaced; two years of cover from the purchase date
- Drawn for dust and unsealed ground — a 790 that mostly tours on tarmac is better served by the P08
What the gap between 7 and 80 is worth
Everything much larger than 80 microns is stopped whatever sits in the box, and everything far below 7 goes where the air goes. The real question is therefore how often this particular motorcycle meets the material in between, because that is the only part of the load the finer medium can claim credit for. A 790 Adventure that spends whole days on dry unsealed roads meets it continuously, raised by the wheels ahead and by its own. One that reaches a trailhead on tarmac and turns round again meets it for twenty minutes.
The honest limits
The other half of the ledger is not small. This medium passes about a ninth of what the standard weave passes, and it does so at every throttle opening on every ride, whether the air is dirty or clean. That is the largest reduction in rated flow anywhere in Sprint Filter's range, and it deserves a deliberate choice. Neither element makes a standard 790 Adventure faster: a replacement panel in an unaltered airbox does not add output, and no honest description of one claims that it does. What a Sprint Filter element gives instead is an intake restriction that starts low and returns to that figure every time it is cleaned.
Care and cleaning
In the ordinary case the PM155T12 is serviced without a single liquid. Compressed air at the clean side, worked outwards across the mat, pushes the day's load back out the way it came. Heavier loading calls for hand-warm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. After that it dries in moving air and nothing quicker — heat damages the medium — and it is refitted only when dry throughout. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
