A P14 starts out with more intake resistance than a P08 does. That is not a flaw to be explained away, it is the thing being bought: 14 microns of retention instead of 80, paid for with 1,800 litres per square metre per second of airflow instead of 5,050. What makes it a sound purchase is the character of that cost rather than its size. It is known before ordering, it is fixed, and it is there from the first kilometre. The resistance that builds up inside a loaded element is the opposite — nobody knows how large it is, it grows, and it never announces itself. Fitting the PM186P14 is really a decision to swap an unknown variable for a known constant.
Key Features
- A known, fixed exchange: 14 microns of filtration for 1,800 litres per square metre per second
- Dry P14 fabric, special and non-woven, washable and reusable
- Cleaning puts the element back at its starting condition instead of deferring a purchase
- Unoiled, so nothing can travel onto the throttle body or the intake sensors
- The original element's place in the standard airbox — no modification, no remap, homologation as it was
- Warranty: two years from purchase
Known against unknown
Riders notice a fault; they rarely notice a drift. An element that loads over months takes its toll gradually enough that the machine at the end of a service interval simply breathes a little less freely than the one at the start, and the rider has adapted long before the difference is large enough to name. The figure a rider can actually work with, then, is not the one that develops silently but the one that was chosen deliberately. With this element the deliberate figure is on the specification sheet, and the developing one can be set back to nothing whenever the owner decides to.
What the reset is, and what it is not
The reset is a line of compressed air from the clean side, and it brings the element back to where the specification says it should be. Repeat that at sensible intervals and the intake spends its whole life near the value the motorcycle was set up around, rather than sliding away from it between purchases. It is worth being clear about what this does not buy. A drop-in element in an untouched airbox does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and a medium chosen to restrict more than the P08 least of all. Consistency is the claim, and it is the right size of claim for a part of this kind.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards, is the normal service. Where the PM186P14 needs more, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will do it, rinsed until the water runs clear. Dry it right through in open air — no heat, no flame — and refit it dry. Nothing is oiled; nothing ever was.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha Sniper MXi, 2015 to 2026, and a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same PM186P14 element is listed for six model names across that period; the full list is in the Fitment tab, and the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
