Air does not drift into a Panigale airbox. It is pushed. Ducts either side of the headlight face straight down the road, and the faster the bike goes the harder the box is fed — the same on the standard V4, on the V4 S and on the V4 SP, since all three take their air the same way. That settles two things at once: how a fine element behaves in service, and what it is asked to catch.
Key Features
- 14 microns of filtration from a dry special nonwoven, where the P08 for this airbox is rated at 80
- Flow rated at 1,800 litres per square metre per second against the P08 figure of 5,050 — roughly a third, given up deliberately
- A depth medium: random fibres in layers, so the route through is a maze rather than an opening of fixed size
- About double the filter area of a typical performance element, which is what makes a fine grade workable here
- Direct replacement for the standard panel; airbox, ducting and mapping all stay exactly as Ducati left them
- Dry and unoiled, washable, built to last the life of the bike, two years of warranty from purchase
Fed from the front
Rated flow figures are taken on a bench under fixed conditions and normalised to a square metre of material. They compare one medium with another and do nothing else — least of all tell you what happens in a duct at road speed. What can be said is that the pressure driving air through this element is no constant here: it climbs with road speed, because forward motion does part of the work. The medium is asked for most at exactly the moment the ducts are helping most. That cancels neither the flow rating nor the cost of fine filtration. It is only a reason the exchange is easier to live with here than in a box breathing from a quiet corner under a seat.
A duct that cannot choose
The second consequence has nothing to do with performance. An intake tucked behind a side panel takes air that has already slowed, turned a corner or two and dropped part of its load. A forward-facing duct at the nose of a fairing takes it at full speed with everything still in it. On this motorcycle the element is first in the path and the only thing between the road ahead and the throttle bodies, which is the argument for 14 microns rather than 80. What it is not is a power part: no slot-in filter makes a standard V4, V4 S or V4 SP faster, and this one trades away flow headroom on top.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the routine work: apply it to the clean side and push the dust back out the way it arrived. Greasy build-up comes away with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then a thorough rinse. Drying happens in circulating air at room temperature only, since heat of any kind destroys the material, and the PM160P14 goes back in dry and untreated. The manufacturer's maintenance sheet is filed under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Ducati Panigale V4, V4 S and V4 SP built from 2018 to 2026. The same element covers the Panigale V4R, V4S Corse, V4S Speciale, Diavel V4 and XDiavel V4 — six entries under one code. Check the code and the year before ordering.
