Every argument for a finer filter medium has an awkward asymmetry at its centre, and it is better named than glossed over. What the Sprint Filter P14 costs is measurable and immediate: 1,800 l/m²/sec of air flow where the standard P08 medium passes 5,050, and a fabric that reaches any given state of loading sooner precisely because it is holding more back. Nobody will ever be able to point a Bimota KB4 owner at the cylinder wear that did not happen. The PM111P14 is therefore a considered purchase rather than an upgrade, and the sensible way to approach it is to set the two sides next to each other and decide, rather than to trust a claim on either.
Key Features
- The medium: dry non-woven, 14 microns, 1,800 l/m²/sec
- The area: roughly double the surface other performance filters carry
- The fabric: never oiled, nothing to migrate onto sensors or throttle bodies
- The fit: into the standard airbox in place of the original — no modification, no remap
- The service: compressed air from the clean side, a wash when needed, refit
- The cover: two years of warranty, against a design life equal to the motorcycle's
The side that can be counted
A finer weave passes less air per unit of area; that is physics, not marketing, and 14 microns against 80 is a large step. Area is the term that makes it workable — this element carries roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, and flow ratings describe the medium rather than the finished part. Even so, the direction is unambiguous. On a litre-class four ridden hard the reduced flow ceiling is a real consideration, and for a KB4 used mainly for fast riding on clean roads the standard P08 is the more sensible balance.
The side that has to be reasoned about
The other half is a question of exposure. Nothing dramatic happens the moment a coarse particle gets through; what accumulates over a long ownership is a quantity of abrasive material that was admitted rather than caught, and the P14 simply admits less of it. That is worth paying flow for where the air is genuinely dirty — gravel access roads, long dry summers, agricultural dust, days spent in dense traffic — and worth rather less where it is not. One benefit is not statistical at all, though, and it can be verified: the element is washed rather than thrown away, so the intake resistance goes back to its starting value at every service instead of climbing until a new part is bought.
Care and cleaning
A wash is the exception: lukewarm water, a mild detergent, a rinse until the water runs clear, then open air until the element is dry right through, with no heat and no flame at any point. The rule is compressed air, sent from the clean side outwards, and a dry element back in the airbox. Oil plays no part before or after. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Bimota KB4, 2021 to 2026. The same PM111P14 element covers five machines built around this airbox, including the KB4RC and the Kawasaki models that share the engine; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
