Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 (2018–2023) PM200S

The Vitpilen is the road-biased half of the pair — clip-ons instead of a flat bar, tarmac instead of gravel, the same 373 cc single underneath. A road bike loads its air filter differently: slowly and evenly rather than in dramatic bursts, which is exactly the pattern that lets a paper element go unnoticed for far too long. Nothing tells you it has happened. The Sprint Filter P08 PM200S is a dry polyester element with roughly double the filtering surface, and it is cleaned rather than replaced, so the intake can be returned to its designed state instead of drifting away from it.

The failure that never announces itself

Air filters do not break. They load, gradually, and the engine management compensates by metering fuel to whatever air arrives. Consumption creeps up by an amount too small to notice week to week, the throttle gets a little lazier off idle, and the rider adjusts without ever registering that anything changed. There is no warning light for it. The only defences are a lower starting restriction and the ability to reset it — which is what a washable element with twice the surface area gives you.

A clip-on bike gets ridden on its midrange

The riding position puts weight on your wrists, which means you use the engine rather than cruise on it. Between third and fifth, rolling on and off, is where the Vitpilen lives — and that is transient work, the condition under which intake restriction is felt most directly. Holding it low is worth more here than any peak figure.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry.
