DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ducati's Panigale V4, launched for 2018, carries a factory steering plate that already works well on the road, and Melotti Racing's R&D department set out to refine that starting point rather than replace it outright with the Top Yoke, PS.DU.318. Melotti built a related version of this plate with the Barni team and the tester known as Petrux #9 for the V4 R's World Superbike campaign in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, and the version sold here for the V4 of 2018 to 2020 carries over the same adaptive-geometry design, engraved as a reminder of where its development began.

Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the PS.DU.318 from an aluminium alloy with a high magnesium content, taking the plate from billet with CNC machines and 3D machining technology rather than casting or forging it. The structure is described by Melotti as an adaptive geometry, built to flex slightly under lateral load at the same time as it stays rigid through the stress of hard braking, and the finished plate is noticeably light for its size. A vernier scale built into the clip-on mounts allows a rider to fine-tune handlebar position, and the complete yoke is fitted with titanium fasteners from PRO-BOLT, carrying truncated-cone heads. Both the black and natural anodised finishes carry the same superbike engraving and the Melotti Racing R&D logo used on the components it supplies to World Superbike teams.
A Steering Plate Shaped by World Superbike
The same basic design behind this V4 top yoke also underpins the plate Melotti developed with the Barni team and the tester known as Petrux #9 on the V4 R across the 2023 and 2024 World Superbike seasons, and various teams from the world championship down to the British Superbike grid have used related Melotti yokes on their machines. On this base model, the practical benefit Melotti describes is a noticeable reduction in chattering through the front end, paired with better feel right at the point in a corner entry where the brake is released and the bike is tipped in, which matters as much on a trackday as it does on a grid.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti's price list covers three versions of this superbike with the same part number, and our listing follows that range of 2018 to 2020 for the base model. Melotti's own website separately mentions later end years for the S and R versions than the price list does; we have taken the price list's years as the basis for this listing. The yoke is designed to work with the standard lower steering plate rather than needing a matching lower unit.
Road Approval
No ABE, German parts certificate or EC type-approval exists for this top yoke, from Melotti or from us. It is sold for racing and other closed-circuit use; fitting it to this bike ridden on German public roads without a documented entry is not permitted, and race organisers set their own technical rules for any event.
Scope of Delivery
The PS.DU.318 top yoke is delivered complete with its titanium PRO-BOLT fasteners, in the black or natural finish selected. The standard lower steering plate is not part of the delivery and stays on the bike.
