DescriptionThe whole story▼
Read this before anything else: this silencer has no road approval. Akrapovic states it in capital letters — the product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use. These are A1 and A2 machines, ridden by people who often cannot afford a problem with a registration document, so the warning belongs at the top of the page rather than at the bottom.
Key Features
- 1.2 kg against the standard 4.7 kg: 3.5 kg and 74.5 per cent less — the largest proportional saving of any exhaust in this catalogue
- Titanium construction
- 0.9 PS and 1.4 Nm more, both at 5,000 rpm
- Covers four motorcycles: Ninja 125, Z125, Ninja 250SL and Z250SL
- No road approval — circuit use only
Three and a Half Kilograms Off a 146 kg Motorcycle
Three quarters of the exhaust weight is gone. On a Ninja 125 that weighs 146 kg ready to ride, 3.5 kg is nearly two and a half per cent of the entire machine — and all of it comes from the highest, furthest-back position, which is the worst place on any motorcycle to carry mass.
No other part in this catalogue changes so much of a bike's weight for so little money. That is the case for it, on a track.
Four Bikes, Two Generations
Kawasaki built the Ninja 250SL and Z250SL from 2015 to 2017, then reused the same chassis and exhaust mounting for the Ninja 125 and Z125 from 2019. One silencer therefore covers four models across two distinct production runs. Check your registration document rather than the shape of the bike — the 125 and the 250SL look almost identical.
Why the Approval Matters More Here
On a licence-restricted motorcycle, a non-approved exhaust puts more than the exhaust at risk. A German inspection will fail it, and an insurer can take a view on a machine that no longer matches its type approval. For a rider on an A1 licence that is a disproportionate consequence for a part that costs this little.
Fitting it to a registered bike is the owner's legal responsibility. Used at track days or on private land, none of that applies.
1.2 Kilograms Is Not a Typo
The finished silencer weighs about as much as a large bottle of water. That is the whole part — body, inner structure, end cap and mounting — in titanium, against 4.7 kg of double-skinned steel that Kawasaki fits because it is cheap to make and meets the noise limit.
It is worth stating plainly because a 74.5 per cent figure invites disbelief. The reason it is achievable is the same reason the part is affordable: on a small, price-sensitive motorcycle the standard exhaust is the heaviest thing the manufacturer could get away with, not the lightest.
What Stays Standard
The header and the mounting points are untouched, no remapping is required, and the standard silencer bolts straight back on. On a machine that may need to pass an inspection or be sold in original condition, that reversibility is part of what makes a track-only part practical to own.
