It is a separate item and it changes one thing worth knowing before you buy both: with the optional header set fitted, the carbon fibre heat shield cannot be mounted. The sound level is what the unit produces as built — approved at that level, but not adjustable up or down. The R 1200 GS Adventure carries a 30-litre tank, wider crash bars and, on most bikes, factory panniers whose right-hand rail sits close to the silencer.
