DescriptionThe whole story▼

When the Panigale 1199 appeared for 2012, it did away with the trellis frame that had defined Ducati superbikes for decades. In its place came a compact monocoque that bolts to the cylinder heads and doubles as the airbox, which turned the Superquadro twin into the backbone of the whole motorcycle. The engine no longer simply sits inside a frame; it is the structure. For that engine, Accossato makes the FP004, an oil filler cap of CNC-machined aluminium with an M20x2.5 thread, anodised in eight colours.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Ducati Panigale 1199, 2012 to 2015
  • Covers the ABS version on Accossato's list as well
  • M20x2.5 thread, the size Accossato quotes
  • CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised surface
  • Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
  • Also suits other motorcycles with the same cap size, once checked
  • TS003 front and TS012 rear reservoir caps listed for the same bike
  • No German ABE on file; intended for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato turns a piece of aluminium into the FP004 on CNC machines and finishes it by anodising, so the colour sits in the surface of the metal instead of in a coat of paint. The thread is M20x2.5, and that thread is the whole of the dimensional information Accossato gives: the cap suits the applications on its list, the maker says, and any other motorcycle whose filler takes the same size. Titanium, black and silver keep the look discreet; gold, red, orange, blue or green turn the filler of a Panigale 1199 into a small point of colour.

When the Engine Is the Frame

An engine that carries the rest of the motorcycle deserves an unhurried routine, even if that routine is the same one every rider knows. On the Panigale 1199, check the oil only once the bike has stood long enough for the engine to cool, and hold or support it exactly as the owner's manual describes while you read the level. Before the filler is opened, wipe the area around it; grime that falls in at this moment goes straight into the Superquadro. Look at the thread and the sealing face, on the cap and on the opening, and clean both if they need it. Top up in small steps with the oil the manual names, checking again between each one. The FP004 then goes in by hand, turned until it seats and no further, because a cap that has been forced is only harder to remove next time and seals no better. Many owners ride a first-generation Panigale less than they used to, so keep in mind that the manual counts time as well as distance for the oil. After the first ride with the new cap, look at the filler and the casing below it: both should be dry.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FP004 for the Panigale 1199 from 2012 to 2015 and names the ABS version of 2012 to 2014 separately. Because the cap is defined by its M20x2.5 thread, it can also serve other motorcycles with a filler of the same size. In our catalogue the same cap appears for the Monster 1200, the Hypermotard 939 and the DesertX. If the filler on your Panigale 1199 is no longer original, compare the thread before ordering. For the same bike Accossato also makes the TS003 for the front brake reservoir and the TS012 for the rear, in every colour offered here except titanium, so all three caps can share one shade.

Road Approval

We hold no ABE or other test document for the FP004, so it is listed for racing and competition use.
