DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of Yamaha YZ450F owners keep an older bike alongside the newer one. The race bike is saved for race days, while the older YZ450F does the practice sessions, the training days with a coach or the weekend when a friend wants to try motocross. A bike with that job often gets the least attention in the workshop. Accossato's DK111 replaces its front disc: a fixed disc in one piece for the YZ450F from 2003 to 2015, 250 mm across and 3 mm thick, described by the supplier as steel-made and interchangeable with the original.
Key Features
- Fixed front brake disc for the Yamaha YZ450F, 2003 to 2015
- Single-piece disc, steel-made according to the supplier
- 250 mm outer diameter, 119 mm inner diameter
- 3 mm thick
- Six 6.5 mm holes on a 134 mm hole circle
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the DK111 in one piece, without a carrier or rivets. Friction surface and hub flange are the same part, steel as the supplier states, and the disc bolts on through six 6.5 mm holes spaced on a 134 mm circle around a 119 mm opening. According to Accossato, the bite of its discs comes from their design and from carefully selected raw material, knowledge it says it gathered in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. For a bike that sees a lot of use, the most useful detail is a small one: the minimum working thickness is printed on the disc, which turns the question of whether it is worn out into a simple measurement.
The Bike for Practice Days
A practice bike leads a hard life. It is ridden often, washed in a hurry and put away damp, and repairs tend to wait until something stops working. Brakes suffer most from this, because they rarely fail outright; they just work a little less well each week, and the rider adapts without noticing. The front disc of an older YZ450F may have seen many seasons and more than one owner, so it deserves a proper inspection. Measure its thickness at several points around the pad track and compare the lowest reading with the minimum on the disc. Look for grooves deep enough to catch a fingernail, a raised lip at the outer edge and any cracks near the fixing holes. Spin the wheel and watch the gap at the caliper: a disc that wanders from side to side has been bent, perhaps in a crash long before you owned the bike. If it has to go, fit new pads at the same time, bleed the system with fresh fluid and bed everything in before returning to full speed. A practice bike with a sorted front brake also makes practice more useful, because what you learn about braking points on it is worth something on race day.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK111 for the YZ450F from 2003 to 2015, a span that covers the carburetted bikes as well as the fuel-injected models Yamaha introduced for 2010. From 2016 the front disc changes: the list names the fixed DK268 and the floating DK269 for the YZ450F from 2016 to 2022. At the rear, the DK168 runs from 2003 to 2022. The bike has a single front disc, so one DK111 is all it takes.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval are on record for the DK111. Like the YZ450F itself, it belongs on the motocross track.
Scope of Delivery
