Changing the medium in an airbox sounds like changing habits, and it is not. The P14 goes into the ZT 200 exactly as the woven element does, is serviced with the same air line, dries the same way, carries the same two years of warranty and is meant to last as long as the machine. Nothing about owning it is new. The single thing the finer mat alters is how often the lid is worth taking off, and that is decided by the roads the bike is used on rather than by the part number on the box.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven, filtration 14 µm, flow 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Fitted and removed exactly like the standard element, in the unmodified series airbox
- Approximately double the filtering area of an ordinary performance filter
- No oil anywhere in its life, neither at manufacture nor in service
- Compressed air restores it; water and a mild detergent deal with the rest
- Specified for the working life of the motorcycle and warranted for two years from purchase
The parts of the decision that do not move
Whichever medium is chosen for this case, the airbox is left as the factory built it, the fuelling is untouched, and the original panel can go back in whenever the owner wants it there. The finer specification is not a conversion and does not ask for one. It also does not add power: no drop-in element makes a standard motorcycle noticeably quicker, and this one trades away part of the intake headroom on purpose, 1,800 against the 5,050 l/m²/sec of the weave. The claim that survives is smaller and more useful — a 14 micron barrier, and a restriction that can be put back to its starting value instead of only ever rising.
The part the fabric cannot help with
Filtration applies to air that goes through the medium. Air that slips past the edge of the element, or in through a lid that was not fully clipped down after the last check, is not filtered at all, and it takes no interest in the fact that the fabric it went around was the finest in the catalogue. On a machine bought for dusty conditions the seat of the element and the state of the ducting deserve the same attention as the specification does: seat it squarely, close the case properly, keep the intake path upstream intact. That is the difference between a 14 micron filter and a 14 micron intake.
Care and cleaning
Ordinary dust needs nothing chemical. Compressed air, held to the clean side and worked outward, sends it back out the way it arrived. Grease or an oily film calls for lukewarm water with a mild detergent, then rinsing until the water is clear of it. Dry the element in moving air at room temperature only — heat guns, radiators and flames all deform the medium — and refit the SM276P14 dry, with nothing applied to it. The instructions live in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Sprint Filter lists this code for the Zontes ZT 200, 2020 to 2026, the largest of the six machines built around this airbox. The other five are 125 and 155 cm³ models and take the identical element. Order by code and year rather than by badge.
