The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
A racing weave is chosen for the minutes an engine spends wide open near the top of its rev range, and a naked motorcycle is badly shaped for those minutes. At the speeds where the 703R ETC's triple would draw on the extra flow, its rider is holding on against the wind with nothing ahead of the handlebar. The state the P08 F1-85 is built for exists on this bike, but on the road it tends to be short and rare, and that is the first thing to weigh before paying for it.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave for racing: 22 µm threads, 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Holds back 95.22 % of 100-micron particles; the P08 reaches 93.13 %
- By Sprint Filter's count the filter most used in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock
- Replaces the standard element in the 703R ETC airbox with no modification or remap
- Used dry, never oiled, cleaned with compressed air
- Specified for the life of the motorcycle, with two years of warranty
What the electronics change, and what they do not
The Marelli electronic throttle and inertial platform of the ETC version govern how the engine's response is delivered. They do not change how much air the triple needs at a given power, and they do not turn a filter into a tuning part. No element in an unmodified airbox makes a standard 703R ETC stronger. The racing weave's advantage is flow capacity, and capacity only becomes useful once something else in the intake or exhaust has stopped limiting the engine first.
The better purchase for most owners
For a 703R ETC on the road, the standard P08 is the sounder choice: the same dry, washable polyester family, nearly the same retention at 100 microns, and a little under half the price of this element. The F1-85 makes sense on a bike that has been prepared for circuits, where the element is pulled and cleaned after each hard session. Owners who only reach the upper rev range in short bursts will never see the difference it was bought for.
Care and cleaning
An air line on the clean side of SM300S F1-85, moved outwards across the weave, lifts out the dry dirt. Anything sticky comes away in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. Moving air at room temperature is the only drier — no heat gun, radiator or flame — and it goes back in dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
