DescriptionThe whole story▼
A BMW R 1200 RS that lives outdoors begins its working day on cold discs. The first roundabout after the driveway arrives before anything on the bike has warmed through, the tarmac still holds the damp of the night, and the front brake is expected to answer properly all the same. Accossato lists its AGPA177 pad for the front wheel of the half-faired boxer built from 2014 to 2018, and this article number carries the Sintered (ST) material, which owners tend to choose when the RS is ridden all year rather than only on dry weekends.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the BMW R 1200 RS, model years 2014 to 2018
- Article AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 plate shape in the Sintered (ST) material
- Accossato reports an even grip level whether the pads are cold or hot, and on a wet disc
- Two pads to a box, which is the amount one caliper takes
- The RS carries a caliper on each front disc, so a full front change needs two boxes
- The same shape is catalogued in the EV1, EV2 and ZXC materials under other numbers
- AGPA92 covers the rear wheel across the identical model years
- No German ABE on record; sold for circuit and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
One plate shape, several friction materials: Accossato builds the AGPA177 outline in each of its compounds and separates them by article number. The one in this box is the sintered material, and the company keeps its account of it short. Grip arrives at a steady level with the pads cold, stays at that level once they are hot, and a wet disc does not change the story much. Riders who use an R 1200 RS through the winter tend to value that predictability more than outright bite. A box holds a pair, which is what a single caliper swallows.
Cold Pads on a Damp Morning
The first few minutes of a commute are the ones in which a front brake is least ready. The discs have stood overnight and carry a film of moisture, the pads are at the temperature of the garage, and on an R 1200 RS the rider is usually still settling into the seat when the first junction appears. Habits help more here than hardware does. Cover the lever earlier than you would later in the day, make one gentle application while the bike is still rolling slowly so that the friction faces wipe themselves clean, and leave extra room to the car ahead until you feel the brake responding as it should. If the machine was washed the evening before, expect the same lag on the first squeeze. None of this goes away because the pads are new, so give a fresh set a series of moderate, unhurried stops before you ask anything serious of them.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application data puts the AGPA177 at the front of the BMW R 1200 RS from 2014 to 2018 and nowhere else on this machine; the rear wheel is served by the AGPA92 across the same seasons. Renew both sides of the front axle together, which means one box per caliper, and treat a half-worn pad on the opposite disc as a job left unfinished. While the calipers are apart, look at the discs and at the level and colour of the fluid in the reservoir, and wipe each piston before pushing it home. Accossato also lists the DK006 and DK007 discs for this model.
Road Approval
Nothing in our files documents this pad for public traffic: no German ABE, no test certificate, no approval mark we could quote. The AGPA177ST is therefore offered for the circuit and for competition.
Scope of Delivery
One box containing two Accossato AGPA177 pads in the Sintered (ST) material, the set for a single front caliper.
