DescriptionThe whole story▼

Fantic's Caballero 500 is a single-cylinder motorcycle with a look borrowed from the dirt, and its versions say so: there is a Scrambler, a Rally and a Flat Track. Flat track racing takes place on dirt ovals, where riders turn left all afternoon and slide the bike through every bend. That tradition carries a lesson for any Caballero 500 ridden on loose ground. When a slide in a left-hand turn goes too far, the bike goes down on its left side, where the clutch lever is. For the Caballero 500 of 2022, Accossato lists the AGS92, a black clutch lever of the original type.

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato describes the AGS92 as an original-type spare, designed to give its customers good value for money. The form therefore follows the lever fitted to the Caballero 500 at the factory, and once it is in place the left side of the handlebar looks as Fantic intended. The company also says the lever is made by a process that gives it greater resistance after damage or a fall. It is black. Accossato does not publish any further technical information, and we do not supply our own.

Left Turns on Loose Ground

On loose ground most falls are lowsides. The front or rear tyre slides out in a bend, the bike drops onto its inside and slides along until it stops. In a left-hand bend the inside is the left, so the parts that touch the ground are the clutch lever, the left footrest, the gear lever and the end of the handlebar. Dirt-oval riders accept this as part of their sport, and the same physics applies on a gravel lane or a grassy field. On a Caballero 500 ridden off the tarmac, a few habits keep the damage small: ride with a margin, look well ahead, and keep your inputs on the throttle and the brakes smooth, so that a slide starts gently and can be caught. If the bike does go down, switch off the engine, lift it with your legs and look over the left side before you continue. A clutch lever that is bent or cracked needs replacing, and once the new one is on, set the free play as the handbook describes and check that the clutch switch responds.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the AGS92 for the Caballero 500 of 2022 and names all six versions of that year: Anniversary, Deluxe, Explorer, Flat Track, Rally and Scrambler. No other model year appears on the list. If your Caballero 500 is from another year, compare the lever on your bike carefully with our product photo, or send us a picture before ordering, and we will check it for you.
