DescriptionThe whole story▼
The generation of the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade that arrived for 2017 was lighter and far more electronic than the one before it, and the SP added semi-active suspension. On a club grid, races on these bikes are often decided by details, and one of them is how much fuel goes into the tank before the start. That is where Accossato's FC125 comes in, listed for the Fireblade of 2018 and 2019 with the SP and the SP2 included: a quick-release cap made entirely of CNC-machined aluminium, with a coloured pin on its pawl.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, 2018 and 2019
- Listed for the standard Fireblade, the SP and the SP2
- Entirely CNC-machined aluminium
- Quick-closing pawl for quick opening and closing
- Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Replacement pawl available separately
- No German ABE on record; for racing and track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the FC125 from aluminium on CNC machines and uses no other material for the body, which it describes as robust and durable and presents in a new design. With its quick-closing pawl, the cap opens and closes the tank of the Fireblade quickly, so a last top-up before the race does not eat into the time before the call to the holding area. The pin on the pawl comes in six colours, and if the pawl should be damaged, Accossato sells it as a separate spare.
Fuel for the Race, and for the Laps Around It
Race fuel is a calculation, not a guess. The race distance is only part of it: there is usually a sighting lap from the pit lane to the grid, a warm-up lap, the race itself and the slow lap back to the paddock, and a red flag with a restart can add more. Riders who race a CBR1000RR regularly know from experience how much their bike uses per lap at race pace, and they add a margin rather than running the tank as light as possible. Fill up in the paddock before the call to the holding area, with the engine off and the bike upright on its stands, and note what you added. Close the pawl and check the cap once more before you roll out, because scrutineers and marshals look for leaks, and a damp tank on the grid helps nobody. After the race, compare what is left with your calculation; that note makes the next race easier to plan.
Fitment and Compatibility
Entries for the Fireblade of 2018 and 2019 lead to the FC125 on Accossato's list: the standard bike and the SP over both years, and the SP2 of 2018. For the Fireblade of 2017, the list points to a different Accossato cap, the FC109, so check your model year before ordering. We also sell the FC125 for smaller Hondas such as the CBR650R, the CBR500R and the CB650R.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE or parts certificate for the FC125, so we sell it for racing and track days. The Fireblade's original cap normally locks with the ignition key, and on public roads that is the cap to use.
