A T100 from the 2017 to 2021 run is a used motorcycle now, and used motorcycles are judged on what a viewing can show: paint, tyres, chain, the tone at idle, stamps in a book. The intake tract shows none of it. Nobody lifts the seat and looks into the airbox before the money changes hands. It is also the one piece of wear on the machine that a second owner can reset completely, in an afternoon, for the price of a part. The Sprint Filter P14 PM174P14 is the fine version of that reset: a dry non-woven element that filters at 14 microns where the standard P08 medium works at 80, cleaned and refitted instead of thrown away.
Key Features
- Retention at 14 microns; an air flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec
- A dry non-woven medium, never oiled — nothing can be carried onto the throttle bodies or the air sensor
- Twice the filtering surface of other performance filters, near enough
- Replaces the standard element as it sits: airbox unmodified, map untouched, homologation intact
- The entire service is an air line at the clean side; the element is washed and used again
- Two years of warranty from the day of purchase, on a part made to last as long as the motorcycle
The one wear item you can reset completely
Most of what a second owner inherits cannot be undone. The intake is the exception, because the whole of its history is one removable part. Fit a clean one and the airbox starts again at zero, with the difference that this one does not need buying a second time. That is the argument for choosing the finer medium at the moment of the reset rather than later: you are starting a new count anyway, so start it with a barrier that holds back the small mineral fraction as well as the visible stuff.
The flow you give up, and whether you were using it
A finer weave retains more and passes less air: 1,800 l/m²/sec for the P14 against 5,050 for the P08. That is an exchange, not a ranking. The T100 is the calm member of this family, tuned for the middle of the rev range and ridden there, on tarmac. The airflow the P14 surrenders sits at the far end of a demand curve that a road-ridden T100 does not visit often enough to notice. If your riding does live at that end — track days, sustained hard use — then the P08 is the correct part and this one is not. Either way, no insert filter makes a standard motorcycle meaningfully faster. What this one offers is finer retention and an intake restriction that stays where it started.
Care and cleaning
Servicing the PM174P14 starts and usually ends with compressed air, directed at the clean side and worked outwards; put the element back dry. A dusty season calls for a wash — lukewarm water, a mild detergent, and enough rinsing that the water finally runs clear. From there it is patience: open air until it is dry through, with heat and flame kept well away. Nothing is oiled. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
